Veteran radio talent injured in road accident

MANILA, Philippines—A popular female radio voice talent and this year’s Gawad Plaridel awardee for broadcasting, was injured after she was hit by a taxi at Edsa corner North Avenue  in Quezon City early Wednesday, Radyo Inquirer 990 AM reported.

Senior Police Officer 3 Ronquillo Mano of the QCPD Traffic Section told Radyo Inquirer that Eloisa Cruz Canlas, 70, was taken to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment of injuries in the head and body.

Popularly known as Lola Cela, Cruz played characters in “Simatar” and “Gabi ng Lagim,” both radio dramas in the 1970s.

Until May this year, Cruz starred in Radyo Inquirer’s soap drama “Zyra and Newsboy.”

Mano said Cruz was conscious when taken to the hospital for scans and treatment.

The driver of the taxi, Nemencio Villanueva, is under police custody.
