Local government units (LGU) and the police force topped the list of government agencies with the most number of complaints filed before the Office of the Ombudsman in 2016.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Ombudsman said a report from its Finance and Management Information Office showed that a total of 2,799 cases were filed against LGU officials and 1,022 cases against officers of the Philippine National Police.
The rest of the top 10 government agencies with the most cases before the Ombudsman were as follows: Department of Education with 222 cases; Armed Forces of the Philippines with 201 cases; Department of Environment and Natural Resources with 120 cases; state universities and colleges with 109 cases; Bureau of Customs with 104 cases; Department of Justice with 88 cases; Department of Agriculture with 85; and the House of Representatives with 84.
The 2,799 criminal and administrative cases filed against LGU officials were broken down as follows: 1,700 cases filed against city or municipal officials; 892 cases against barangay officials; and 204 cases against provincial officials.
The LGU and the police have consistently topped the list of agencies with the most cases before the Ombudsman since 2011, records from the Ombudsman showed. CDG/rga
