2 people die, 5 injured as bus slams into a tree in Daraga

DARAGA, Albay — Two persons died while five others were hurt when a Sorsogon province-bound bus slammed into a tree in Barangay Peñafrancia in this town on Friday, police said.

SPO4 John Mallorca, spokesperson of the Daraga Municipal Police Station, said the accident involving a Philtranco bus, which left Metro Manila on Thursday night, happened at 3:05 a.m.

He identified the fatalities as Jane Dimaano and Henry Bartolome, both of Sorsogon.

The driver, Marvin Eva, 35, and four other passengers were taken to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Mallorca said the bus did not hit any pedestrian, vehicle, or roadside structure before it slammed into the tree. /atm
