Suspected NPA rebels burn equipment, abduct cop, 1 other in Bukidnon

Suspected communist rebels abducted a policeman and another unidentified individual after burning construction equipment in Bukidnon, the military said.

About 200 armed men attacked the residence of a certain Litio Atoy, 48, at Barangay (village) Tikalaan in Talakag town at around 5 a.m. on Thursday, Army’s 4th Infantry Division spokesperson Captain Joe Patrick Martinez said.

The alleged members of the New People’s Army took away one backhoe, one dump truck, one mixer and a generator set, which they later burned at KM 28 in the same village.

The military also received reports that the rebels abducted a policeman identified as PO2 Natividad of Kalilangan Municipal Police Station and another unidentified individual.

Martinez said they also have received reports that Atoy was murdered by the rebels, but this was still for confirmation.

The Army’s 1st Special Forces Battalion has launched pursuit operations against the rebels.

“The group is believed to have withdrawn towards Lanao del Sur area by foot,” Martinez said. CDG
