LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Two motorists were killed and two others were injured in separate vehicular accidents along the Maharlika Highway in Atimonan town in Quezon province on Monday, police said Tuesday.
Chief Insp. Alexis Nava, Atimonan police chief, in a report said a Toyota Revo being driven by Salvador Enriquez, 54, accidentally sideswiped a Manila-bound Philtranco bus being driven by Allan Doringo in Barangay (village) Angeles at about 2 a.m.
With the impact, the Toyota vehicle was pushed to the opposite lane and collided head-on with the oncoming Higer Pintados bus being driven by Ramon de los Santos, report said. The Toyota vehicle then hit the steel railings on the side of the road and consequently turned turtle on the shoulder of the highway while the Higer bus subsequently hit an electric post and also the steel railings.
Both Enriquez and his passenger, brother Eligio, died while on the way to Dona Marta district hospital due to fatal injuries. The passengers of the two buses were unharmed.

Also Monday, a tanker trailer truck containing diesel fuel being driven by Virgilio Pamulaklakin slammed into a boulder and consequently rested on its left side on the shoulder of the highway in Barangay Malinao Ilaya at around 3 p.m., a report from Atimonan fire station said.
Pamulaklakin, while negotiating a downhill portion of the highway, suddenly lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure. He and his helper Joshulee de la Cruz both sustained injuries and were given first aid treatment by rescuers while firemen cleaned up the fuel spilled on the road./rga
