LPA near Mindanao may intensify into tropical cyclone this weekend

The low pressure area near Mindanao may intensify into a tropical cyclone within 24 to 36 hours, the state weather bureau said Friday.

The weather disturbance was last spotted 815 kilometers east of Hinatuan City, Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

If it develops into a tropical cyclone, it will be locally named “Bising.”

“The trough of LPA will bring light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms in Mindanao and the regions of Eastern Visayas and Bicol,” Pagasa said. CDG/rga
