1,000 displaced in Basilan town fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY — About a thousand individuals were displaced when a big fire hit an area in Lower Portholland in Maluso, Basilan, on Thursday.

Maluso Mayor Hani Bud said the fire broke out at 2:30 p.m.

Fire authorities declared a fire-out at 4 p.m., he said.

“We are still assessing the overall damage now,” Bud said, also acknowledging the assistance that fire stations of nearby towns had given.  SFM/RGA
