DID YOU KNOW: Lt. Gen. Rafael de Izquierdo
On Jan. 18, 1871, King Amadeo of Spain appointed Lt. Gen. Rafael de Izquierdo as Governor-General of the Philippines. Izquierdo introduced rigid and strict policies that made Filipinos more against the Spanish government. It was under his leadership that the 1872 Cavite Mutiny and the execution of three priests—Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora—took place. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
