Update

LIMAY, Bataan — A crew member of a cargo vessel from Metro Manila died when the boat caught fire and sank in waters between Corregidor Island and Mariveles town in Bataan province on Tuesday noon (Jan 17).

Sonny Ruado, 50, was in a rescue vessel when he accidentally lost his grip, was caught by giant waves and drowned, said Lt. Carlos Victor Carlos, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard unit based in Lamao village.

Five crew members were reported missing, but their names have not been released at press time.

Five other crew members — Luis Madula, 68; Ronald Garcia, 54; Jonjon Manalo, 33; Ian Badayos, 22; and Angelo Gambol, 39 — were rescued by a joint team deployed by the Lamao Coast Guard and the Philippine Army.  SFM
