Storm ‘Auring’ moving closer to Bohol

Tropical depression Auring continued to move closer to Bohol early Monday, while maintaining its strength and intensity.

Signal No. 1 was raised over Cuyo Island, Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Provinces, Southern Leyte, Cebu including the Camotes Island, Guimaras, Capiz, Iloilo and the southern part of Antique, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

These areas and the rest of Visayas are warned of possible flashfloods and landslides.

The tropical cyclone was spotted 100 kilometers east-northeast of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 75 kph.

Auring moved slowly at 9 kph. Based on the forecast track, it could leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday or Friday.

The weather disturbance first made landfall over Siargao Island on Sunday afternoon

Pagasa said moderate to heavy rain is expected within 300 kilometers of the tropical depression.

Fishing boats and small vessels are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of the Visayas and Mindanao.  CBB
