Tabal defends women’s 21k title; Kenyans shine anew

KENYAN runners put up another dominating performance yesterday, topping the long-distance events of the Citigym Half Marathon Halloween 2011 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Abraham Missous bagged his second title over the weekend by winning 12-kilometer race while Josphat Kiptanui won the 21k event.

Missous also topped the 10k category of the Spooktacular Run last Friday at the SM City Cebu.

Yesterday, he clocked 40 minutes and 12.740 seconds to emerge on top in the 12k category.

John Philip Dueñas  clocked 41:21 while Adonis Singson finished in 42:28 to round off the top three in the men’s side.

Kiptanui, meanwhile, logged a time of one hour,  12 minutes and 35 seconds to top the 21k category.  Ian Bernido managed second place (01:17:07) followed by Paul James Zafico (01:20:29).

Southwestern University’s (SWU) Mary Joy Tabal led the local side as she defended her title in the 21k distaff side by clocking 1:27:58.

Second to Tabal was Madelyn Carter (01:42:25) and Marichu Luterte (01:42:26).

Cristy Sevellino-Tutor also logged her second win over the weekend as she finished first in the women’s 12k run with a time of 51:41.

Mary Jane Beboso came in second while Miriam Miranda finished third.

Tutor bagged her first title of the weekend in the  Spooktacular Run.

Jong Cases and Jane-jane Ong won the 21k client’s category while Jhean Andrin and Joel Delposo claimed the top spots in the 5k category. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
