Cop, sis nabbed in Taguig drug sting

A police officer who earlier failed a drug test was arrested along with his sister in a buy-bust operation at their Taguig City residence on Wednesday night.

Taguig Police Station Anti-Illegal Drugs head, Chief Insp. Jerry Amindalan, identified the suspects as PO1 John Santos, 39, an officer reporting to Headquarters Support Service in Camp Crame, Quezon City; and his sibling Gloria, 45.

Case investigator SPO1 Ricky Ramos said an undercover agent was able to buy a sachet of suspected “shabu” worth P2,000 from Gloria inside the Santoses’ unit at MRB Compound, near C-5 Service Road in Barangay Ususan, around 8 p.m. Six more sachets of the drug were also recovered from Gloria’s pouch.

Ramos said the Santoses had been under surveillance for a year and were confirmed by neighbors to be peddling illegal drugs in their area.

PO1 Santos was earlier assigned at the Quezon City Police District’s Batasan station.

In July, the district director, Chief Supt. Guillermo Elleazar, named Santos as one of the four officers who tested positive in random drug tests conducted on QCPD personnel. —Dexter Cabalza

The operators of the Skyway System, Naia Expressway (NaiaX),  South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and Star Tollway are advising motorists traveling in and out of Metro Manila during the Christmas and New Year holidays to properly plan their trips to avoid delays and inconvenience.

Traffic is expected to peak today, on Dec. 29, and on Jan. 3 for the return trip to and from South Metro Manila after the holiday.

Motorists are encouraged to prepare exact fees for faster transactions.

Better yet, they can avail themselves of the free RFID stickers installation at the Petron service station on the southbound side of SLEX, other service stations on the northbound side, the Ayala-Greenfields toll plaza, and the Skyway Building in Bicutan, Parañaque.
