CABANATUAN CITY — A former barangay (village) chairman and his son were caught with a handgun and over 170 grams of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) in two police raids on their respective houses on Tuesday morning (Dec. 13).

Leonilo Sacdal, 54, who used to head Barangay (village) Pula, was the subject of a court warrant for illegal possession of firearms but he also had drug paraphernalia when police recovered a 9mm pistol inside his home, said Supt. Ponciano Zafra, city police chief.

His son Emerson, 30, was the subject of a drug operation and was concealing nine big plastic packs of shabu at his home. The police applied for a warrant against Emerson because he was allegedly part of a drug trafficking network operated by slain drug suspect Ferdinand Reyes.

Sacdal and his son surrendered to the police on July 10, along with other people who had confessed to having drug habits or for selling illegal narcotics, Zafra said.  SFM/rga
