Lung cancer patient needs P42K for chemo
Melchor Quesada, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2012, was supposed to undergo his fourth chemotherapy session at Philippine General Hospital on Nov. 29.
“It was postponed as we’ve reached the end of the line as far as money is concerned. There’s no one we can turn to for help anymore,” the 57-year-old former mechanic from GMA, Cavite province, told the Inquirer.
Quesada’s common-law wife Nelly Otanes does not know who else she can call on for her partner’s medical expenses. She has taken over the role of family breadwinner since Quesada became sick. She now works as an “extra” in a tailoring shop while taking care of their two children, Kaye, aged 11, and Cedrick, aged 8.
“Before, she planted cassava in our backyard while I was bedridden,” Quesada said. “Good thing, our children are not hampered by the situation we are in. They continue with their studies in a public school.”
He appealed to Inquirer readers to help him raise the P42,000 he needs for his much-delayed fourth chemotherapy session.
