CIDG-8 head breaks into tears in denying drug ties

Not only the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) but also the leader of the unit that raided Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. turned emotional when he answered Kerwin Espinosa’s allegations of drug involvement against him during the Senate inquiry on the questionable operation.

Choking back tears, Supt. Marvin Marcos said: “Masakit din ito para sa pamilya namin—pamilya ko, members ng CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group). Nagtatrabaho lang po kami, sir.”

Marcos, chief of the CIDG Region 8 that led the raid on Espinosa’s cell in a Leyte jail, said it was “unfair” for some people to accuse them that the operation was intended to kill the mayor.

Senator Panfilo Lacson and Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, both present in the hearing, said the search operation at the Baybay sub-provincial jail seemed “premeditated.”

“Napakaunfair po nitong inaakusahan sa amin noong oras na sinasabi na premeditated ‘yung operations,” he said.

Before Marcos turned emotional, PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa broke down into tears, saying it was difficult for him to see that the public is losing trust in the PNP despite his efforts to cleanse the organization.
