Soldier, guard kill each other in Mindoro resto brawl

CITY OF CALAPAN — A soldier and a security guard killed each other after a misunderstanding in a restaurant in San Jose town in Occidental Mindoro province Monday night, police said.

Citing initial report from San Jose police, Supt. Imelda Tolentino, police regional information officer in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (MIMAROPA), said on Tuesday, that Corporal Abundio Villamante Aljas, 44, a resident of Bagong Silang, Barangay (village) San Roque and security guard Ruel Enano Ilidan, 26, resident of Barangay La Curva, had a misunderstanding in a restaurant owned by Aljas’ friend located at Barangay San Isidro at around 11:30 p.m. The cause of the misunderstanding was not known.

When Aljas was about to leave, Ilidan, with companions John Rey Dimapilis Manahan, Rinmar Ilidan Paz and Rogelio Guzi Gonzales, suddenly hacked and stabbed Aljas with bladed weapons several times, hitting him on different parts of his body.

Although wounded, the victim was able to draw his pistol and fire at his attackers, shooting Ilidan on his left chest.

Aljas and Ilidan both died while being taken to the nearest hospital for treatment while the three other suspects were arrested and brought to the San Jose police station.
