Drug suspect killed in Rizal; Batangas councilor shot dead

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna — A suspected drug pusher was killed in a shootout with police in San Mateo, Rizal, late Monday evening, a police report said Tuesday.
Police identified the fatality as Gerry Saliwan, of Barangay Ampid 1.
Police said the shootout took place at about 11:45 p.m. in the same village after undercover policemen conducted a buy-bust operation.
“The suspect sense(d) that the poseur buyer was an operative (and) open(ed) fire,” read the police report. This prompted the authorities to retaliate, killing Saliwan instantly.
In Nasugbu Batangas, Reynaldo Lopez, a councilor of Barangay Dayap, was gunned down by unidentified men at about 8 a.m., Monday, in Barangay Putat.
