The Manila Police District (MPD) has 36 personalities—elected and appointed officials and members of the police force—on its new drug list.
Senior Supt. Joel Coronel, MPD director, announced in a press briefing at Camp Crame on Thursday that the Manila police are monitoring 36 individuals who are “either drug protectors or traffickers.”
“There are 36 personalities on my list. Halo-halo —both elected and appointed officials including police personnel,” Coronel said.
“In fact, we arrested one policeman the other week and a case has been filed against him in Sta. Mesa,” he said.
He clarified that the list was separate from what he submitted to Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada. The initial drug list contained 16 names of different officials and policemen in Manila.
In October, Estrada ordered Coronel to speed up the MPD’s operations against 16 local government officials and policemen with alleged drug links.
