Kerwin Espinosa will join high-profile inmates, including Senators Bong Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada, at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center.
PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos said Espinosa’s cell inside the detention facility is already being prepared by the PNP’s Headquarters Support Service (HSS), which supervises the Custodial Center.
“The preparation is being made. Once in place, the HSS will advise us on what information we can give you,” Carlos said in a press briefing at Camp Crame on Thursday.
Sharing the detention facility with them are Supt. Hansel Marantan and nine other police officers facing charges for the killing of 13 people in Atimonan, Quezon, in January 2013.
Police will provide Kerwin tight security when he arrives in Manila early Friday following his arrest in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) last October 17.
After serving the arrest warrant to Kerwin in the airport, his escorts will transport him to Camp Crame and detain him in the jail facility inside the police’s national headquarters.
Security within the police camp will also be intensified upon the arrival of Kerwin.
Carlos said PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa will present Kerwin to the media as soon as he arrives in Crame.
“Kerwin will be presented upon arrival para makitang secured na secured siya sa hawak ng PNP,” he said.
Last Nov. 5, Kerwin’s father Albuera, Leyte Rolando Espinosa Sr. was killed inside his cell when the police raided the Baybay City sub-provincial jail in Leyte in search for illegal drugs and firearms.
The death of the mayor and his fellow inmate Raul Yap has raised questions, prompting the Senate and the PNP to launch a probe on the legality of the search operation carried out by the members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 8 and Regional Maritime Unit (RMU). JE/rga
