A suspect in the murder of a National Bureau of Investigation agent in 2012 was killed while one of his coaccused was arrested in San Mateo, Rizal province, on Wednesday.
Wilson Ortega and Raymund Camero were tracked down by an arrest team at separate houses at Monterey Hills Subdivision, Barangay Silangan, the NBI said on Friday.
The slain Ortega and Camero were two of the six men charged with the murder of lawyer Leandro Yanguas, then an NBI supervising agent, who was shot dead on Soliven Avenue, Barangay Mayamot, in Antipolo on May 12, 2012.
The four other suspects are Ariel Abuera, Wilfredo G. Balbin, Miguel Ranomero, and Bal Makimot. Judge Mary Josephine Lazaro of Branch 74 of the Antipolo Regional Trial Court had issued arrest warrants against all six.
In a statement, the NBI Ortega fired at the arrest team and was killed as the lawmen retaliated.
A .45-caliber pistol was recovered from Ortega, who was also found keeping a sumpak (improvised shotgun) and a wig— believed to have been used for his criminal activities—inside his residence.
