Magnitude 5 quake jolts city
A magnitude-5 earthquake jolted Metro Manila and surrounding provinces at 3:10 p.m. on Thursday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake measured 5.0 and not 4.4 in the Richter scale, as earlier announced. It said no damage was expected.
Phivolcs, however, warned of aftershocks, after initially saying none were expected.
The earthquake was felt as Intensity V in General Nakar, Quezon, since its epicenter was located 24 kilometers northwest of the municipality. The tremor was of tectonic origin and occurred at a depth of 13 km.
