Durano to make jail into heritage site
VICE Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III plans to convert Danao City’s old jail into a heritage site once the inmates will be transferred to a new jail, to be built sometime soon.
Durano said the old jail was situated in the old municipal building of Danao City, which was built before World War II.
Durano announced his plan for the old jail after he donated a one-hectare lot that he owned in barangay Dungguan to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Region 7.
The deed of donation was turned over to BJMP-7 Director Jail Romeo Vio yesterday at the Danao Legislative building.
Vio said the new jail would address the congestion of inmates at the old jail, which could only accommodate 100 inmates but now holds 200 inmates.
A P3-million budget for the first phase of the project was already allocated by the city government ./Correspondent CArmel Loise Matus
