Pasig jail warden sacked after detainee escapes

The warden of the Pasig City Jail was sacked on Thursday, hours after the escape of an inmate on Wednesday night, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.

BJMP Director Rosendo M. Dial announced the relief of Superintendent Arnold F. Buenacosa, the Pasig jail warden, who was replaced by Senior Supt. Hernan Grande.

Arnel Capinig Francisco, a robbery suspect, slipped out of the jail at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday night.

“We have already launched an operation to recover the inmate. The Directorate for Investigation and Prosecution is already conducting an investigation regarding the incident,” Dial said in a statement.

All duty personnel during the incident were also relieved and disarmed, he said.

Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo himself ordered the relief of Buenacosa. Asked what would become of Abugabie, Robredo said: “He will also be relieved.”

In April, Grande himself was removed as  Quezon City Jail warden  following reports that road rage suspect Jason Ivler  was receiving special treatment in his cell.
