2 killed in anti-drug operation in Laguna

SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna—Two illegal drugs suspects were killed in separate shootouts as policemen swooped down on suspected illegal drug dens in Calamba City in Laguna province early Wednesday.

Maximo Magnaye, 53, and Alano dela Peña were killed after engaging policemen in separate gunfights, said Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson of the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) regional police.

The operation, carried out by more than 100 policemen from the provincial and city police, antidrug task force and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, started at 5:30 a.m. in Barangay (village) Mayapa.

Supt. Albert Tapulao, Calamba City police chief, said they served seven search warrants that targeted suspected drug dealers in various locations in the village.

Tapulao said Magnaye and Dela Peña were killed in separate residential compounds.

He said several people were arrested during the operation but he could not immediately say how many they were as police were still processing information from these suspects and conducting inventory of evidence. RAM
