AFTER getting a warning, Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), dropped his plan to ask for sponsorship from his junior officers for a golf tournament.
Garbo said he would look for other ways to fund the tournament, which aims to raise funds for PRO-7’s various programs.
Garbo said proceeds of the tournament will be used for the renovations of the police’s clubhouse in Lahug, barracks and the regional director’s office.
He admitted sending solicitations ranging from P10,000 to P50,000 to his junior officers.
Homer Mariano Cabaral, regional director of the National Police Commission in Central Visayas (Napolcom-7), said the solicitation was illegal and Garbo could face administrative charges.
Cabaral said such project needs the approval of the Napolcom based on Memorandum Circular 91-009, which was implemented 10 years ago./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
