Tabal, Kitanui top successful One Thousand Cranes Run

MARY JOY Tabal and Kenyan runner Josphat Kitanui emerged on top in yesterday’s One Thousand Cranes Run of ThreeSixty Pharmacy at the Asiatown IT Park.

It was sweet victory for Kitanui, who was left disappointed  in his last race here in Cebu. He topped the 15-kilometer men’s race after clocking 52 minutes and 25 seconds. He received in full his P10,000 prize.

He had a bad experience in last April’s 1st Cebu Fun Run of C/24 7. Kitanui won the 10k race but received only a fraction of the P7,000 cash prize that was promised.

Arnold Unabia placed second (52:25) followed by John Philip Dueñas (54:31) at third.

In the distaff side, Tabal continued her dominance after clocking 1:01:50 to win the 15k crown. It was her 10th major win this year alone.

Cristy Tutor finished second (1:10:06) while Madelyn Carter wound up third (1:12:27.)

The race was a fund-raising event of ThreeSixty Pharmacy for the victims of the Japan disaster last March 11. The event gathered around 1,300 runners and finished without a problem despite being held simultaneously with another race (see above story) that was also meant to help the Japan victims.

This was ThreeSixty’s second successful race for this year alone. The first was the ThreeSixty Night Race held last April 9 at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City. Another race is set for this July 24 dubbed ThreeSixty Kawasan Marathon.

Other winners in the race were Joebert Carolino of Davao (6k men’s) and Joeyry Lee (6k women’s). /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
