Members of the Special Action Force (SAF) on Monday evening confiscated a plastic bag of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) in a raid conducted at the New Bilibid Prison.
The still undetermined quantity of shabu, which was packed in small sachets and placed inside a bigger plastic bag, was found at Dorm 3-B around 7 p.m.
“The drugs are in small plastic sachets. This is for push quantities,” the source said, meaning it was ready for distribution.
Dorm 3-B, which is occupied by the Sputnik gang, is on the “presidio” side of the Bilibid, according to the source. Presidio is headed by Jaybee Sebastian, who has testified against former justice secretary and now Sen. Leila de Lima. The presidio side has around 5,000 members, mostly from Luzon and Chinese convicts.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre earlier said drugs could no longer be smuggled inside the national penitentiary due to the strict measures implemented by the SAF.
However, he also said it was possible that there were illegal drugs still hidden inside the prison.
Last month, a riot ensued inside Building 14, a highly secured area inside Bilibid, after inmates were allegedly caught in a pot session./rga
