The Powerade Tigers try to bounce back from a bitter loss the last time out as they face the skidding B-Meg Llamados today in the first game of the 37th PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Tigers succumbed to a painful, 72-73 loss to the Barangay Ginebra Kings in their out-of-town game last Saturday in Victorias City. It was a monumental collapse for the Tigers who lost a five-point lead in the final five seconds.
Poor free throw shooting did the Tigers in as Rommel Adducul and Gary David each missed a pair of free throws that allowed the Kings to steal the win.
David, normally a good free shooter, missed two free throws in the final 12 seconds and the Tigers leading by a point.
Mark Caguioa completed Ginebra’s come-from-behind win by completing a near buzzer-beating putback off a Jayjay Helt erbrand miss.
Powerade currently holds a 2-2 (win-loss) record, just slightly ahead of B-Meg, which is 1-3.
The Llamados are still looking for consistency under new head coach Tim Cone.
B-Meg’s lone win came at the expense of Cone’s former team Alaska, which is still winless in four games.
Since an, 81-75 win over the Aces last Oct. 12, the Llamados have dropped their last two games, including a heart-breaking, 94-96 defeat at the hands of the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters last Friday.
In the main game, the Kings gun for a second straight victory against the lowly Shopinas.com Clickers.
The Kings, who are also 2-2, will be highly favored against the Clickers, who join the Aces at the bottom of the standings with a 0-4 slate.
