2 Cebu City barangays to receive computers

Two barangays in Cebu City will each receive 10 computers with printers from the Visayan Electric Company for their alternative learning system program.
Veco will turn over the computers to barangay Mambaling today, Oct. 26, and to barangay Kasambagan on Friday, Oct. 28.

The ALS program of the Department of Education gives out-of-school youth and adults an option to finish elementary and high school through informal education.

Last. Oct. 10, Veco also turned over two-classroom kindergarten school buildings to Cepoc Elementary School in barangay Tinaan, Naga City, southern Cebu last Oct. 10 and to Tayud Elementary School in barangay Tayud, Lilo-an, northern Cebu, on Oct. 14.

The two buildings are part of the four “Silid pangarap” kindergarten school buildings Veco committed to donate to Aklat, Gabay, Aruga Tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP) Foundation for 2011 and 2012.

The foundation was established by presidential sister Pinky Aquino Abellada to promote early childhood care and development through preschool program.

At the turnover in Tayud, Cebu Schools Division Superintendent Arden Monisit acknowledged Veco’s assistance.

Monisit said Cebu still faces a shortage of classrooms. She, however, was confident that the problem could be solved with the help of education stakeholders.

“We are not alone in this endeavor because generous education stakeholders like AGAPP and Veco are extending help. With their help, achieving the goal of better education is not impossible,” said Monisit.
