Typhoon Lawin (international name: Haima) continued to weaken as it moved away from land midday Thursday.
As of 11 a.m., Lawin is off the coast of Ilocos Norte, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Storm signals have mostly lowered. Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Ilocos Sur and Calayan Group of Islands were placed under Signal No. 2.
Signal No. 1 was up in Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Kalinga, Isabela, Quirino, Northern Aurora, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan and Northern Zambales.
Lawin was last spotted 130 kilometers northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
It packed maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph.
Lawin moved west northwest at 21 kph, and is likely to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday night, Pagasa said.
Moderate to heavy rains are seen within the 700 kilometer diameter of the typhoon.
