New graft case filed vs Abalos over 2 cars
MANILA — After he was acquitted over the scuttled national broadband project deal, former Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos is now set to face trial for new graft charges over the anomalous purchase of two cars in 2003.
A charge sheet filed by the Office of the Ombudsman showed that Abalos procured two Toyota Revo VX 200 vehicles without going through public bidding.
The two cars were purchased from Toyota Pasong Tamo, Inc.
For the allegedly anomalous purchase, Abalos was charged with violation of Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act for causing undue injury to the government and giving unwarranted benefits to a private party.
Prosecutors recommended that bail be fixed at P30,000. SFM
