LPA near Surigao likely to develop into tropical cyclone

A low pressure area (LPA) near Surigao City is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next three days, the state weather bureau said midday Tuesday.

The LPA was last spotted 990 kilometers east of Surigao City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The LPA will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and Caraga.

Flashfloods and landslides are possible, Pagasa added.

If the LPA intensifies into a tropical cyclone within 24 to 72 hours, it will be locally named “Karen.” RAM
