Village chief, treasurer killed in Isabela

BENITO SOLIVEN, Isabela—A village chair and his treasurer were killed by four armed men on Sunday in Makindol village here, police said.

Makindol village chief Emilio Lazaro, 57, and barangay (village) treasurer Wilson Galapon, 59, were taking part in a barangay assembly meeting at the village chapel when four unidentified men broke in and fired at the barangay officials, said Supt. Narciso Paragas, Isabela police spokesperson.

Galapon died instantly while Lazaro was declared dead on arrival at the San Mariano Medical Hospital.

Both sustained head and body gunshot wounds.
