The Makati City government has closed down 58 internet cafes since July for various violations, like letting students in during school hours and operating without a valid permit from the mayor’s office.
Mayor Abigail Binay on Tuesday warned computer shop owners to strictly follow city ordinances or face closure.
She cited the cases of Ryukatel Internet Cafe in Barangay Poblacion, JPCS Ticketing Center and Jenel Photo Video and Computer Services in Bangkal.
“I call on parents and officials of our schools and barangays to be vigilant. We need to ensure that internet-related facilities in their neighborhoods are strictly observing the ban on elementary and high school students inside their premises during school hours,” Binay said in a statement.
Residents are urged to report violators to her office though the official Facebook account, MyMakati.
Charges have been filed against the directors of Busko99 Corp. Also closed down was Republic of Gamers Shop in Pio del Pilar, which continued to operate despite a closure order issued in February during the previous administration.
