Lumberyard owner shot dead in Cebu

CEBU CITY — An owner of a lumberyard was shot on Wednesday morning in Upper Kinasang-an, Cebu City.

Charito Matiko, 48, was cleaning in front of his store, Janice Enterprise, when a man on board a motorcycle shot him past 6 a.m.

Investigators later found an identification card in his wallet that named him a confidential asset of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID).

The ID was signed by  Supt. Rex Derilo who was now under investigation for allegedly receiving payola money from suspected drug lord Franz Sabalones.

PO3 Edario Manatad, homicide investigator, said they also found a .45 caliber pistol tucked in his waist with four magazines.

Initial investigation conducted by homicide section of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) showed that Matiko was cleaning the premises of his store since he was about to open it when the assailant arrived and shot him.

The attack surprised the victim who was not able to pull out the gun that was tucked in his waist.

One of the angles being looked into was Matiko’s work. The police were also checking if the victim  was a drug user. CDG
