Bomb threat cancels classes in Laguna school
LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – Classes at the Sta. Rosa Elementary School in Laguna province were cancelled on Monday after one of the teachers on Sunday received a text message that a bomb would explode in the school compound, police said.
Supt. Giovanni Martinez, Sta. Rosa police chief, said police and bomb squad members at 8:30 a.m. Monday declared the school premises clear of any explosive following a more than three-hour search and clearing operation.
Martinez said a teacher on Sunday reported the threatening message to the police, prompting school officials to advice students not to come to class on Monday.
Members of the faculty, however, were given a brief training on dealing with bomb threats.
The school, with about 2,800 students, is in the heavily populated village of Tagapo.
Martinez said it was the first bomb threat that targeted a school in the city, although there were similar reports of bomb scare in the provinces of Batangas, Cavite and other parts of Laguna. JE
