Farmer hurt in grenade explosion in North Cotabato village

ALEOSAN, North Cotabato—A farmer was seriously injured when a hand grenade exploded in a remote village here Friday night, police said Saturday.

Senior Insp. Edwin Abantes, Aleosan town police chief, identified the victim as Datu Ganan, 45, of Sitio 3, Barangay Pagangan.

Initial investigation showed that residents heard the loud explosion at past 9 p.m. and saw Ganan yelling for help.

Neighbors rushed him to the Aleosan District Hospital.

Abantes said it was not clear at this time if the grenade was lobbed by still unidentified men or the victim owned it.

“We are still investigating because we have reports that Ganan has a conflict with another family in the area,” Abantes said.
