Parañaque extends UVVRP coverage

/ 03:09 AM September 23, 2016

The Parañaque government will be enforcing the number coding scheme in all areas in the city starting on Oct. 1 because of the worsening traffic due to ongoing infrastructure projects.

“There is an increase in the volume of traffic in Parañaque for the past five years and it has become unacceptable,” Mayor Edwin Olivarez said in a statement on Thursday.

Previously, the number coding scheme, officially known as the unified vehicle volume reduction program (UVVRP) was imposed only in selected areas.

Olivarez also announced the implementation of the daily truck ban between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. “to have an immediate solution [to] the tremendous traffic problem.”

According to Parañaque City public information chief Mar Jimenez, the number coding scheme will be effective from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

He said that they have been receiving hundreds of complaints every day from residents and workers about the heavy traffic on Dr. Arcadio Santos Avenue (formerly known as Sucat Road) due to the ongoing pipe-laying project of water utility firm Maynilad.
