Escapee surrenders; Gwen orders probe

DESPITE the surrender yesterday of the inmate who escaped from the Cebu provincial jail last Oct. 20, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia still ordered an investigation of the jail warden and the jail guards on duty that day for the jailbreak.

“What are they doing?” Garcia asked about the jail warden’s “security” at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).

Garcia also said she would no longer consider the inmates’ request to be with their families on the eve of Dec. 24 to celebrate Christmas.

She also reminded the jail guards to closely keep watch of the dalaw or visitors of the inmates.

Renante “Bolatik” de la Rosa, a murder suspect, escaped through the provincial jail’s kitchen area last Thursday. Jail guards discovered he was missing during a head count shortly after 6 p.m. that day.
