Disbarred judge cries injustice

Not only did she not get to see the evidence against her, she could not even get a copy of the Supreme Court’s decision to disbar her—or so claimed a former Cebu City judge.

Saying she was deprived of due process, former Cebu City Metropolitan Trial Court in Cities Judge Rosabella Mondragon-Tormis decried the Supreme Court’s public announcement of her recent disbarment for allegedly solemnizing marriages without a license.

In a two-page manifestation filed on Sept. 7, Tormis said a check with the Office of the Bar Confidant yielded no copy of the Aug. 30 en banc resolution.

Tormis said the hearing officer of the disbarment case told her that “there is no such resolution yet,” and this was supposedly validated by the Supreme Court en banc.

She received information that the case was only set for inclusion in the Aug. 30 agenda.
