OLONGAPO CITY, Philippines—Six members of a drug trafficking group caught in 2013 were handed down life sentences on Friday by a Regional Trial Court (RTC) judge here.
The Chin Drug Group was named after its leader, Albert Chin, who was arrested with P2 billion worth of shabu in Subic in 2013.
Judge Raymond Viray of RTC Branch 75 found Chin and Romeo Manalo guilty of selling dangerous drugs and were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Joselito Escueta, Coronel Disierto, Dennis Domingo, and Emmanuel Tobias, who were members of the gang, were found guilty of possessing dangerous drugs, all them drawing life terms.
The judge also ordered each of the six to pay a fine of P1 million.
The group’s illegal operation in Subic, Zambales was shut down due to an undercover agent, who was able to penetrate the gang as a helper. RAM/rga
