PNP files charges vs 141 personnel positive for shabu use
The Philippine National Police’s Internal Affairs Service (PNP IAS) has filed administrative charges against 141 police personnel who tested positive for shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) use.
Chief Supt. Leo Angelo Leuterio, IAS deputy inspector general, said aside from charging the 137 cops and 4 non-uniformed PNP personnel with grave misconduct, they will also be recommended for dismissal from service.
“We will be recommending dismissal from the service. They are now charged with grave misconduct for violation of Republic Act 6195 o the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002,” Leuterio said in an interview Wednesday.
The 141 police personnel tested positive for shabu use after undergoing PNP Crime Laboratory’s confirmatory drug test from January to August 31.
Leuterio said the highest rank among the police personnel using drugs were Chief Inspectors. Meanwhile, 57 of the 137 cops were PO1 personnel.
The IAS has started conducting lifestyle check on 10 of 141 PNP members from different regions.
Leuterio added that they will look into the properties, assets and businesses the 141 cops own to determine whether they are also selling drugs. JE
