MMDA checks vehicles ‘deserving’ exemption
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct an inventory of the vehicles it earlier exempted from the number-coding scheme and check those that are still “deserving” of such privilege.
Around 300 vehicles were given exemptions this year, according to MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos.
Under MMDA regulations, school and company buses, vehicles with diplomatic plates, media vehicles, and private cars of journalists and medical practitioners can apply for an exemption from the number-coding scheme, which is implemented across Metro Manila, except in Marikina, Muntinlupa and portions of Taguig and Parañaque.
Automatically exempted are ambulances, fire trucks and police cars. Vehicle owners applying for a six-month exemption from the ban pay P300 for cars intended for personal use, and P500 for vehicles for commercial use.
