GYM ISSUE

CEBU City Councilor Jose Daluz III yesterday said that Cebu City’s wellness program was authorized by the Civil Service Commission.

Daluz also corrected the misinformation that their enrollment at the Cebu Holiday Gym and Spa was overpriced.

He said the P12, 000 monthly rate mentioned in media report was the gym’s student rate.

“I have gym brochures to show and prove that the rates (we availed of) were not overpriced,” said Daluz, whom Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young designated to speak on the issue in behalf of the other council members.

Quoting CSC memorandum circular no. 8 series of 2011, Daluz said elected officials and heads of constitutional bodies, bureaus, departments and even state colleges are entitled to avail of gym privileges “in order to develop a healthy and alert workforce.” /chief of reporters Doris C. Bongcac

FORMER Liloan Councilor Lucelito Pilapil took his oath as vice mayor yesterday before Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia at the Capitol.

Pilapil, who is the first councilor, replaced the late Liloan vice mayor Merelito “Boy” Surita who succumbed to colon cancer last month.

The oath-taking was witnessed by Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco, who said he is expecting Pilapil to continue the “good” works that Surita has started.

“Kinahanglan sad gyud nga iyang ipadayon ang maayong buhat sa vice mayor nako sauna. I expect a lot of hard work,” he said.

Surita, 57, was a “big loss” to Liloan town and the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) party.

In a separate interview, Pilapil assured that there will be smooth workflow with them.

Pilapil and Frasco ran under Democracy for the Independent Liberal Conservative (DILC) in the last May 2010 elections.

Councilor Edna Cala also took her oath before Gov. Garcia yesterday after Pilapil.
