Typhoon Dindo (international name Lion Rock) has entered the Philippine area of responsibility before noon Wednesday.
The typhoon was last tracked 1,200 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Dindo packed maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 160 kph. It moved at a slow pace of 7 kph south-southwest.
It is not expected to make landfall and would stay in the country around 1 to 2 days, Benjie de Paz of Pagasa said by phone.
Dindo will bring moderate to heavy rains within its 500-km diameter.
The weather bureau is also monitoring a low pressure area in the eastern section of the country.
The southwest monsoon, meanwhile, continued to affect the western section of Luzon.
Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected over Ilocos region and the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Mindoro and Palawan, Pagasa said.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. CDG
