PANGLAO, Bohol—A suspected drug peddler was shot dead by unknown assailants on Sunday in Panglao town which is known as the tourist capital of Bohol province.
Edward Clemen Arcay, 50, was found dead beside his motorcycle on Bonifacio Street, Barangay Poblacion, Panglao, about 12:50 a.m.
Arcay’s death came after Rainero Estoque, one of the town’s alleged top 3 drug personalities, was killed in a shootout with police operatives on Friday.
PO1 Mark Villanueva Yana, desk officer of Panglao Police Station, said they received a report about a man lying on the ground on Bonifacio Street.
They went to the area and brought the man to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City but he was declared dead on arrival.
The victim, who was later identified as Arcay, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Arcay, a habal-habal (motorcycle-for-rent) driver, was about to go home when he was shot by still unidentified gunmen.
Yana said no one saw what happened since the shooting occurred past midnight.
He said Arcay was number 2 on the list of alleged drug pushers in the town that hosts the province’s top resorts.
Yana said Arcay had a case of attempted homicide back in May 2014. His younger brother, Tirzo, an ex-convict and included in the Top 10 drug watch list, was also killed in February by unidentified assailant.
The Bohol police provincial office confirmed the rampant use of drugs in Panglao, which is included in the top 10 towns of Bohol infiltrated by the illegal drugs trade. JE/rga
