ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat – A barangay (village) chairman here was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen riding tandem on a motorcycle, on Wednesday, the police said.

Supt. Joefel Siason, the town police chief, said Rodrigo Mercado, 59, Barangay Sampao chairman, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds from a .45-pistol.

The victim was on a motorcycle and was on his way to the town hall when gunned down at past 9 a.m. in Barangay Kalawag 2.

Siason said the motive of the suspects remained unknown as of Wednesday afternoon. The investigation continues, according to Siason.  SFM
