American wanted in US for molesting child nabbed in Davao

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is preparing to deport an American national wanted in his country for child molestation.

Jeffrey Wayne Birge, 57 was arrested by Immigration operatives at his house in Woodridge Subdivision, Wawa, Davao City last Aug. 8.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said Birge will be deported for being an undesirable alien and for being undocumented as a result of the cancellation of his passport by the State Department.

Atty. Jose Carlitos Licas, Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) Chief, said Birge is wanted to stand trial before a magistrate court in Tarrant County, Texas.

Licas said the court issued a warrant for Birge’s arrest on Oct. 30, 2014 after his indictment on charges of sexual assault of a child.

It was learned that the American was supposed to be transported from Davao to Manila after his arrest but the trip was postponed for medical reasons.

Atty. Ma. Antonette Mangrobang, BI spokesperson, disclosed that Birge is currently confined at the DMSF Hospital in Davao City upon the advice of a government doctor who examined his physical condition after his arrest.

“We will eventually transfer him to our detention facility in Bicutan (Taguig) where he will stay until he is deported,” Mangrobang said.
