The state weather bureau on Friday morning said monsoon rains will prevail in most parts of the country due to a low pressure area (LPA) north of Batanes.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA located north of Itbayat town was already out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility but another LPA east of Luzon is continuously enhancing the southwest monsoon (habagat).

Pagasa said moderate to occasionally heavy rains will be experienced over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and northern Palawan.

It also warned residents in the said areas against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Pagasa said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas will experience light to moderate rains with isolated thunderstorms.

Several local government units on Friday announced the suspension of classes due to monsoon rains. YG/RAM/rga
