CHICAGO — Bond has been set at $2 million for the mother of a 4-year-old boy whose burned remains were found in the basement of a vacant house by Chicago Fire Department personnel.

Twenty-seven-year-old Alyssa Garcia was charged Thursday with felony counts of concealed death and attempted residential arson in the death of Manuel Aguilar. Also charged were 19-year-old Christian Camerena, who’s being held on $1 million bond, and a 17-year-old boy.

Firefighters found the 4-year-old’s body late Tuesday.

Cook County prosecutors say Garcia admitted that her severely malnourished son stopped breathing on Friday. She said she took his body to the home with Camarena and the teen, where it was set on fire.
